Welcome to the Emmaus Lutheran School Extended Day Care Program
Daily Study Time for All Grades
Games, Crafts, Activities and Enrichment Classes give students a variety of things to do each day.
Emmaus Lutheran School offers extended day care (EDC) to its students before and after school, Monday through Friday. In the morning, EDC is from 7:00-8:00 a.m., and in the afternoon, EDC is offered from 2:45-6:30 p.m. EDC is offered on some pupil free days and school vacations.
EDC staff are qualified child-care workers, CPR/First Aid/AED certified, and fingerprinted, as are all Emmaus employees. Staff provide a diverse program that offers some down time, planned activities, and structured homework time.
There are enrichment classes available for an extra fee. These classes vary from semester to semester, and parents are notified when classes are available. Parents who use EDC on a drop-in basis must still pay for EDC when a student is in an enrichment class, unless the parent checks the student out and picks him up directly at the end of the enrichment class. This way, EDC is responsible for the student in case of any emergency situation that may arise.
There are two options for EDC–full time use for morning and/or afternoon, or drop in (occasional use), which is a $6.00 per hour rate, billed in ½ hour increments. All fees are outlined in the fees section on the website or in the EDC Handbook below.
Emmaus does have a late fee policy. A late fee of $10 for the first 15 minutes will be charged to your account if your child receives care after 6:30 pm. After 6:45 pm charges will accrue at $1 per minute. THIS IS STRICTLY ENFORCED. Students not picked up by 7:00 p.m. are reported to the Alhambra Police Department.
Please note that EDC staff will assist students with homework during homework time, but are not tutors. They are child care workers, who have the primary goal of watching children. They have been instructed by administration to not check every homework problem, but will make every attempt to help a child, as long as it does not interfere with their ability to care/supervise all students. Parents who wish to have students use extra homework time may speak with our lead supervisor, Ms. Ariana Rodriguez.
For parents who use drop-off/occasional use, there is no need to sign up for this in advance. Any student not picked up by the end of the grace period (the fifteen minute period after the end of the school day) are automatically placed in EDC.
